{September 2, 2007}   A Kiss for My Prince

I am absolutely and wholeheartedly obsessed with this Korean Manga called A Kiss for My Prince. It’s written and illustrated by Hee-Eun Kim and it’s just…so incredibly exquisite there are no words for it. The story could have been so poorly written (it’s basically a rags-to-riches type deal with a young maid trying to make a prince fall in love with her), but the storyline continues to evolve with each book release (I’ve read parts I and II and am anxiously awaiting the release of #3 sometime this Fall) and the characters are beautiful and complex. The art is possibly the best aspect of these mangas, as it’s sweeping, romantic, and the detail is just incredible.

Lately, Adriann and I have only been reading Yaoi (boy’s love) manga, but this past month or so I have branched back out into the “straight” genre, with all Korean choices, which is again unusual. It’s just that the art style is different and I think a bit more complex than the Japanese mangas. They have a different way of drawing eyes, mouths, necks, body types, and have a bit more in-depth way of storytelling that can only be described as “abstract”, which doesn’t do it justice.

I’m sure this doesn’t stand for all Korean mangas (I’m positive there are a lot of bad as well as good out there), but so far, I’m incredibly impressed and enthralled with a whole new genre!

And now, a pretteh pic to inspire ye. =^__^= This is the cover art on #1:
